Georgetown Reflection

Georgetown Reflections:

I want you to think about your time in Georgetown. What were some of the things you really enjoyed? Was there anything about the trip you didn't like? Try and include things that you thought about, felt, smelled, heard, saw, etc. You will use this information to help you plan a Personal Narrative about your time in Georgetown during writing, so the more you can include here, the easier your writing will become. Try and use great word choice, and be as descriptive as possible! Please also be aware of your spelling and grammar. If a word is underlined in red, it is spelled wrong, fix it!

  1. When we got there
I did not like the trip. All she talked about is the history l was only interested in the case that had the ore. The trip was not the best it would've been better if we could see and touch the ore. I think that it would be awesome if we could see and touch the drill and the dynamite.
The place that we could not go is creepy. l think l saw a skull in there... not good.

    On the train
The train wasn't the best. The train would be better if it had tables to eat in the closed part with no windows. When we went back it poured I feel sorry for those people sitting outside.

  2. On the feild trip to Georgetown I got to expirence riding on a old train and going into a mine and other stuff.First I want to talk about the train ride. The train ride for me was really exciting becase you got to see really pretty views of the mountains and got to cross Devils gate bridge.I loved looking over the train side and wathing the river rush down stream and seeing all the people strolling by.Once we got of the bridge we went to Silver Plume to go into a Lebanon mine and a managers house and a cabin were they changed clothes. Then we started toword the mine. Before we went into the mine the group leader explaind the rules to us then showed us a old mine cart.It was made out of wood and metal. We put on some helmets and headed into the mine.Water dripped on our heads will we were in the mine.We got to feel the stream of water and it was so cold.Later on in the mine we got to see an old mine digger. It was s cool to see after that we headedb back to the train to go back to the buses to go back to school.

  6. George town was full of fun experiences. One of the fun experiences were when I rode on the train. It was fun because you could see a bunch of wildlife and you could also witness it with your friends and teacher. The train was also fun because the conductor was giving really cool facts about our surroundings and the train. I also got to go on the Devils gate bridge.
When we arrived in Silver Plume the classes split up. We first went to the mine cabins they were really cool. they showed us some of the silver that the miners would try to find.
When it was our turn to go to the mine it was raining. When we got inside it was freezing. The tour guide told us about Tommyknockers. Tommyknockers are dead miners spirits that are stuck inside the mine. Then we learned about the lunch sacks that the miners took. They had a small dry section, a large liquid section, a medium sized main meal section, and a dessert section. They threw their leftovers on the ground for the Tommyknockers. The tour guide also told us that there was a rat problem when the miners mined but the couldn’t kill them because they helped the mine grow.
When we got back on the train we ate our lunches. I got pizza, cookies, chips, and some grapes. It was the best time I’ve had all week.

  7. Q 1
    Georgetown field trip.

At Georgetown I thought, like I couldn’t feel my toes. I was stumblings every step I was so cold.On the train I thought it would fall off the trestle.

At Georgetown I heard the whistle of the train.I loved the height of the trestle. On the other hand I was a little scared!I almost thought I heard a tommyknocker knocking!

At Georgetown I saw, a old abandoned mine. I also saw gold ,silver and fools gold. I thought it was so cool!!! I had never seen REAL gold.I almost saw a tommyknocker!

At Georgetown I smelled, the fresh mountain air. It was cool ,but refreshing. I also smelled like old cheese. But it was not too bad.I was really happy to be in the mountains.

At Georgetown I felt, like I was going to die! I had forgotten to bring my jacket :( .But it was super fun too . I didn’t want to survive.Burrr!

I had a lot of fun at GeorgeTown even though we had lots of rain!

  8. I loved George town, the train was so much fun and a little scary, in a good way. When got on my stomach felt queasy and like I ate something bad. George towns silver mine was cold, not cold freezing. I extremely Disliked that the tour girl kept saying jokes for adults, I mean seriously If the fourth grade was there you have fun why did she keep saying adult jokes? I also did not like the part about the people who died in the mine (gag) Tommyknockers (double gag). But I did enjoy the mine but theres so many Safety issues, but I loved the part about seeing the silver and how we got to see that the to bottom levels of the mine were flooded.

    1. I agree. My stomach felt queasy when we got on the bridge because when you looked out the window it felt like you were going to fall off! Did anybody laugh at the jokes? did anybody understand them?

  10. At GeorgeTown I had so much fun.On the train when we started going I saw the smoke it reminded me of a fire. There was a lot smoke then I got really excited because we started moving. Then we arrived to Devils Gate Bridge it was very very high. I got a little scared. Then we got to Silver Plume then we walked to the Lebanon mine we put on hard hats, then we walked in to the the mine I thought it was going to be very dark.then we walked further then we felt very cold water. After that we walked a little further then we felt “minors snot”.Then we turned around and got out of the mine then got back on the train then rushed on the buses because there was pouring rain outside. After that we went back to school.

  11. I liked going into the mine and getting touch weird stuff called Miner’s Snot. It was on the walls of the mine and was a white, frozen material. It wasn’t really snot, it just looked like that. The water we touched on the ground was really cold. I think I was a good size to go in the mine because I didn’t have to bonk my head. The ceilings of the mine were very low, so if you were tall than you would hit your head. Another cool thing I got to see, was the 60 ft drop to the lower part of the mine. It was completely filled in with green water. There was a ladder coming out of the water that miners would have to climb down. If the water came in too quickly then some of the miners could have died. Molly also showed us a generator/pulley system that helped to bring the silver out of the mine. It was so loud when it was running that people all the way in town could hear it.

When we were on the train, I was really scared about going over the Devil’s Gate Bridge. I could picture us crashing and landing on the street/cement below. When we first got on the train the conductor told us to keep our arms and heads inside so we didn’t get hurt by any trees or fall out. When we finally got on the bridge I could see how high we were, but I was less scared because I realized they would do anything to keep us safe. When the train came to a halt, I wondered why were stopping so soon. The tour guide stopped us to show us something, but when we started up again someone screamed because they were scared. I liked the train ride back from the mine because we got to eat our lunch on the train. I enjoyed this because we were very, very hungry after our mine tour, and I have never eaten on a train before.

  12. The train was different than I expected. The cars were wooden. As the train left we got to go on Devil’s Gate Bridge. I was afraid of heights. If we fell we would fall into a small river. When we got to Silver Plume,we got to go into Lebanon Mine. At first, when I looked in the mine from a small entry, I was nervous. You know that feeling that when you are nervous at first and then when you get in the scary place you say sweet? Well, I had that feeling in the mine. I had a chill:( It was like 32*F. We got farther into the mine and then I saw a ladder that was jabbed in a small pool of water that went 60 ft. down in the water. When we walked my head almost hit the rocks on the top. We say a slimy material stuck on the rock called Miner’s Snot. Touching it was not that bad it felt like moss. I learned about the lunchbox that the miners used. It had three layers. One layer kept their drink. It was at the bottom. Another layer was to keep their hot food. The last layer was to keep their cold food cold. I loved Georgetown like a hot fudge sundae.

  13. Georgetown;

I had a blast at Georgetown here is my favorite part was being on the train. I liked that part because that is one of the oldest working trains in Colorado, and we went over a bridge which I was scared to go on at first but it was good at the end. What I thought was cool is that whatever was smaller than your fist you got to keep, but I didn't find anything. What freaked me out is they was ladder the miners went up that flooded and I thought I saw a body it was nothing. The worst thing about the mine is it was really cold and I forgot to bring a jacket but the tour guide gave me hers. What was weird about the places is the tour guide kept whispering to herself. We got to go in to the manager's office and look at gold blah blah blah went on with the gold, but what caught my eye was the reportes of why the mine shut down I couldn't read it. Here the places we went on the fieldship Mine, Train, Dressing room, and
    Managers office.

  14. What I liked about Georgetown was the mine tour I loved learning about all the history
about mining and learning about tommyknockers was really cool. The mine was in silver plum,is in the far side of Georgetown. In the mine there was lots of silver and water.I loved going on the old coal train it was pretty fast for a train that old.we rode over devils gate bridge I was mad because I didn't get to ride in the outdoor car it would be cool if I was in that car when we went over the bridge
But what was not fun was I FORGOT MY CAMERA! and the mine
was freezing! thats what I liked about Georgetown.

  15. I had a great experience in Georgetown we got to go on a train and go in a silver mine and we had lots of fun!My favorite part of the trip was the silver mine in silver plume. It was a little scary because the guide said that the people that died in the mine where called TommyKnockers and we thought they where there,at the end the guide said that nobody died in that mine,so we where scared of nothing.I almost fell in the dirty water to!And it was 80 degrees outside and when we got in the mine it was like 20 degrees!

I also had fun on the train there was a lot of pretty things like changing trees and and beautiful surroundings.I also saw a chipmunk! The train was a little scary because we went over a bridge that was 100 feet!On the train there was no windows so it was extra scary.Under the train there was 40 degrees water.I felt like the whole train was going to fall in!The train was going fast for a old train.

After the last train ride we had to run to the bus in pouring rain. That was not fun.Once we got on the train we were soaking wet.The bus driver had to pop the lid because the fog was on the windshield. That was cool!

  16. Georgetown was awesome especially the lebanon mine tour at silver plume.the train ride was little creepy because we went on devils gate bridge it looked like I was a 100,000,000 feet off the ground which made my stomach turn and I saw an enormous river with a bunch of big and small waterfalls.I saw lots of trees with different kinds of colored leaves.what sucked was I got rained on A LOT! I will tell you more about the mine tour it was freezing in there and very dirty . we all had to to wear helmets mine wouldn't fit so i had to put my jacket over the helmet to make it stay on .everything was just great.

I loved it. When we got there it COLD! We were dying to get on the train. On the train ride to the mine we saw lots of interesting stuff. We saw the Devil’s Gate Bridge, cool scenery, and interesting rocks and trees. At the Lebanon Mine it was the highlight of our tour. I loved it. My brothers would have loved it because they love Minecraft. We saw this interesting stuff like dragons blood and stalagtites. I was really cool. When we were going home Forrest and I made up a sick invention called the water bike. It was the best field trip ever.

  21. My class and the rest of fourth grade went to Georgetown for a field trip. We rode the train and took a tour of a mine! It was very fun, first we caught the train and rode to Silver Plume. Our guide for Lebanon mine was named Molly, she told us about things called tommyknockers. Tommyknockers were supposedly spirits of the people who died in the mine, tommyknockers would pound on the rocks because they were mad that they died and were stuck in the mine. Next we grabbed some hard hats and actually went into the mine. BRRRRRR... it was freezing in there! Luckily I brought a jacket! We saw some interesting rocks and we also saw a few stalactites. Then we peered down and saw a 60 foot hole full of icky green water. We moved on to where the miners used to eat lunch the benches were cramped and and uncomfortable I’m glad we did not have to eat in there! Next Molly led us to a spot where a machine called the pulley system. The pulley system would pull all the heavy stuff out of the mine. Then we left the mine to catch our train. We ate lunch and rode back to the Devil’s Gate Bridge. I had a great time at Georgetown!

  22. Here we go on the train! My friends Desi,Toby,Ms.Nelly,Dominic,my mom,and Me were going on the train in george town whoot whoot .When the train started going we saw a big bridge I was a little scared at first but when we started going it was really exciting because we were like a hundred feet in the air it took us a couple minutes to get a cross but it was worth it because my mom got some great pictures of the river below us and the mountains next to us. when we got a
cross the bridge desi started saying ‘’wow’’ very excitedly . I thought she was excited to get off the bridge. But then I saw it too it was a big lake like thing full of giant rocks. that was a great picture day!

  23. My trip to Georgetown was awesome! The train ride was really cool. My favorite part was when we crossed Devil’s Gate bridge. You had a nice view of the mountains and the road.We stopped at Silver Plume, but then we kept on going. Soon we arrived at the Lebanon Silver Mine. It was so cool! We saw the flooded first two levels. Then we saw the miner’s lunchroom. It was just a little room with wood benches! Then we saw this thing called miner’s snot. It wasn’t real snot, just a weird forming of calcium. Last, we saw a huge machine that hauled silver to the surface. it was GIANT! Then we had to catch the train back. The only things I didn’t like was that it rained on the train ride back and it was FREEZING in the mine. Overall, my trip to Georgetown was really cool!

  24. What I saw at Georgtown was some animals like a deer and some butterflies. When I went in the mine I saw some foot prints like animal prints and footprints. And when we went on the train it was scarey because we went over the bridge. It was also scarey because it was dark and you can barley she anything in the mine. Most of all it was scarey because we got hirer every time. The coolest part was looking at the smoke it kept going up high in the sky. It cool cause we saw all tipes of animals.ke animal prints and footprints. And when we went on the train it was scarey because we went on top of the bridge.

  25. Georgetown:
I thought for a old train it went pretty fast. And the hand prints in the water which had to be at least 40 degree`s.And all the old mining tool`s.And all the flooded areas and.The
train witch the tour guide said was really loud I mean it looked loud. The train was really long.
And it was run by water I have never in my life seen a water run train. And when we walked
in the mine it dropped about 20 to 30 dredgers. And you got to where the hard hats. And I think I saw some silver in the mine. And I think it is the best field trip yet at franklin elementary.

  26. 27. Some of Black Statche’s character traits is that he is clever. I think Black Stache is clever because, in the book he tricks most of the people on the Never Land that his pirates, on the Wasp are Englishmen. By the time the Never Land’s sailors found out it was Black Stache’s crew, it was too late. I thought that was a really clever trick. He is also smart, he thought about keeping Slank alive, or killing him. Black Stache kept him alive, he had decided he was more helpful alive than dead. Black Stache has some intelligent character traits!
